Great Prayer Plan
Great Prayer Plan
Armin Gesswein was a prayer leader for Dr. Billy Graham and developed much of the early prayer emphasis that led to Dr. Graham's famous 1949 Los Angeles Crusade. One of Gesswein’s frequent sayings was, “When Jesus went back to heaven, all He left behind was a prayer meeting.” Gesswein also said, “The early church didn’t have a prayer meeting; the early church was the prayer meeting.” I don’t believe it is possible to overstate the importance of prayer and the impact it has on the lives of people all over the world. Jesus modeled fervent prayer and taught, “My house shall be called a house of prayer.” (Matthew 21:13; Luke 19:46) Hence, this year’s associational theme: Great Prayer for the Great Commission.
- A key is to keep it simple and specific for the churches in your area.
- Association-wide prayer events will be coordinated another way.
- Note: It would be great to hear about blessings of praying together.
1) Refer to the color-coded associational area map.
2) Call someone from your area churches and plan to join in prayer for the people nearest your churches.
3) Churches in each area already have WMU and Brotherhood groups that could join periodically for prayer.
4) Special times of area prayer could be New Year’s Eve, Good Friday, July Fourth, Back to School, etc.
